This device is used for the identification of the tin side of the “float” glass which has been in contact of tin into the furnace.
Pull the window of the wood light near one of the two side of the glass: on the “atmosphere” side there isn’t any lighting, while the tin side will be “opaque” (see picture: the tin side is on the left)
It’s recommended to operate in a dark or low lighted room to have a better evidence of the grey fluorescence of the tin side.
